Tasks include:

● Working the tills, weighing produce and handling cash
● Point of Sale (POS) App

● Quality control: restocking, consolidating and keeping good stock appearance

● Tidying, cleaning, and flattening boxes
● Customer service: welcoming & greeting customers, responding to questions, conveying information
● Chopping fruit and veg for sale and tasting
● Conducting customer questionnaires
● Assisting with marketing and on sell strategies 

Volunteer Garden Coordinator

We are looking for a confident veggie gardener to manage a small plot at Atherton Gardens OSHC, growing herbs for our Fitzroy market and collaborating with the children during holiday programs.


The Community Grocer are a not for profit social enterprise selling fresh fruit and veg at weekly pop-up markets across Melbourne. The market aims to improve fresh food access to the community through quality produce at affordable prices. 

We are looking for a volunteer to manage a small garden plot in the Atherton Gardens, growing herbs and lettuces for our Fitzroy market. The role involves coordinating all work required to restore and maintain the raised veggie beds into productive plots. Vegetable gardening experience is necessary.

Hours are somewhat flexible however applicants must be willing to commit to a weekly shift for a minimum of three months and be available on Tuesday mornings to bring produce to the garden.

The role may also include working alongside Children during school holiday programs, so applicants must have a current Working with Children Check.

The Community Grocer runs weekly affordable fresh food markets to support healthy connected communities. We run 5 markets across Melbourne, in Carlton, Fitzroy, Fawkner, Fawkner & Pakenham. Everyone is welcome, and more than 34,000 customers have purchased our delicious fresh produce since our first market in 2014.


An opportunity is now available for a community-minded person to join The Community Grocer team in the role of Fundraising Coordinator.

The hours are flexible, working at your chosen location, approximately 1-2 hours per week.                 


The Fundraising Coordinator will be responsible for investigating opportunities to raise funds for TCG.

You will be responsible for researching suitable grants and keeping the Operations Manager up to date with current grant openings using a database; helping to organise fundraising events; and putting forward ideas for other fundraising and promotion activities, including by building and strengthening community partnerships and networks.

Preferred experience/skills:

  • Fundraising activities for a social enterprise, Not-for-Profit, community group, or similar.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
