Our Mission
The Community Grocer is a not-for-profit social enterprise that revitalises local food systems in communities across greater Melbourne by running weekly fresh food markets that provide access to affordable, sustainable and culturally relevant fruit and vegetables for all. Our vibrant and inclusive marketplaces increase food security, strengthen local economies and foster social connection.
With the rising costs of living, many households are struggling to put fresh food on the table. It is estimated that up to 20% of Victorians now experience food insecurity.
We address the physical, economic, and social barriers to fresh food access by:
holding markets in targeted communities
stocking culturally relevant produce
creating weekly gathering spaces that celebrate diversity
ensuring affordability - with prices 30% more affordable than nearby fresh food outlets
Our Impact
We improve health & well-being through fresh food access and social inclusion.
~450
households every week
70%
of our customers are unemployed or living on a low-income
84%
have increased their fruit and vegetable consumption
93%
feel more connected to community
Our Fruit & Veggie Boxes
Your Fruit and Veggie Box order helps us to achieve our mission - to run weekly, affordable, fresh food markets to support healthy connected communities.
Get Involved
If you’re keen to make a difference in your community, there are lots of ways get involved. We have various volunteer roles at markets, assisting customers, doing bicycle deliveries and even gardening.
