good food from great producers
The producers we work with are the heart of our mission, helping us create thriving, healthy communities across Melbourne.
Below are some of the producers we work with, success stories and information on how you can partner with us.
Success stories
These stories highlight how partnering with us can help you reach new customers, support food security and improve local food systems.
-
Community Garden goodness
The Aintree Community Garden provides fresh herbs and greens using regenerative agriculture. Founder Jono Ingram and volunteers embody our value to centre people, place, and community. The garden is a vibrant space for learning, connection, and growing food in Melbourne's west. This partnership helps us ensure culturally relevant produce for all.
-
Values-based procurement
Burd Eggs, a family farm with a 60-year legacy, practices values-based procurement by supplying free-range chicken eggs. Their chook-focused care and rotational farming build healthy soils, aligning with our focus on sustainable and fair food. This partnership supports a resilient supply chain while giving customers access to high-quality, ethically produced food.
-
Pathways for participation
Farm Raiser is a not-for-profit social enterprise focused on growing nourishing produce using organic practices. Led by Eve and Charlotte, they team up with a Special Development School to offer education and job pathways for students with disabilities, showing we are inclusive and equitable, always. This collaboration helps strengthen economic participation and provides affordable food.
-
Pitching in for our partners
Gabby grows old garlic varieties using organic practices, bringing truly local food to the market. Our TCG staff pitch in with planting and harvesting, demonstrating that together we are stronger. This teamwork helps keep labour costs fair and makes Gabby's fresh, chemical-free garlic affordable for all our customers, supporting local economies.
-
Whole of systems approach
The Jones family uses Certified Organic and regenerative practices to grow fresh potatoes, showing a deep commitment to the land. They use traditional cultivation to manage weeds and work with the soil's natural defenses, demonstrating a whole of systems approach. This partnership ensures a steady supply of high-quality, sustainable food for our markets.
-
Regenerative agriculture
Rod, a fourth-generation farmer, uses regenerative agriculture to grow gourmet potatoes. By focusing on soil health and natural pest control, he hasn't sprayed chemicals in over seven years, protecting the land for future generations. This aligns with our mission to revitalise local food systems by supporting farmers who are fair and dedicated to sustainable growing methods.
-
Passionate land stewards
Schreurs & Sons are passionate land stewards who use Integrated Pest Management (IPM), letting "good bugs" control the bad ones. This reduces chemical use, making their celery and leeks more sustainable and healthy. Their focus on biodiversity, waste reduction, and energy saving reflects our value to embrace food as a vehicle for change in the food system
-
Committed to honest fresh fruit
Phil and Mitch Shepherd use Integrated Pest Management for their apples and pears, cutting down on chemicals for healthier, unwaxed fruit. This commitment to fresh and honest produce ensures quality for our communities. Their traditional and innovative approach helps strengthen our values-based procurement, connecting customers to high-quality fruit straight from the local farm.
