Meet Huong Truong, our new CEO
We are excited to announce that The Community Grocer will be joined by Huong Truong as our new Chief Executive Officer!
Huong joins the organisation with more than 20 years of experience in community organising and leadership. She has worked across local government, trade unions, grassroots groups, election campaigns, and the arts, and is a former Greens MP for the Western Metropolitan Region.
We’re thrilled to welcome a leader whose decades of work align so closely with our own values of fairness, inclusion, and community care.
“I'm inspired by what else our communities make possible when we get together to create access to local healthy, fresh food for each other.
Our markets nourish, connect and help communities believe in themselves.”
Huong Truong, The Community Grocer’s new CEO
“Georgia and the talented team at The Community Grocer have built out a strong and replicable model for communities to shift local food systems towards food security and deep local connections,” says Huong. “I feel so lucky to be joining such a committed and talented team!”
“I'm also inspired by what else our communities make possible when we get together to create access to local healthy, fresh food for each other. Our markets nourish, connect and help communities believe in themselves.”
Huong’s favourite fruit is mango with a squeeze of lime. 🍋🟩🥭
Former CEO Georgia Savage staying on as Impact Manager
Huong is succeeding Georgia Savage, who is stepping back after three and a half years as CEO and nearly a decade of work across various roles at TCG, from Market Manager to Board member.
Georgia will remain a core part of the team as she steps into the new role of Impact Manager. Georgia has guided us through some incredible achievements, expanding our markets, developing new initiatives, strengthening our systems and securing opportunities that have made us a stronger organisation. (Read our 2025 Impact Report to learn more!)
This change will enable Georgia to spend more time with her family while continuing to deliver key projects at TCG. We’re delighted that TCG will continue to benefit from her knowledge and passion.
Huong’s focus on advocacy and partnerships, supported by Georgia’s ongoing presence on the team, will be invaluable in driving forward TCG’s mission of a fairer food system for all.
